A stain as good as Lifeline Ultra-2 deserves a bodyguard, and that's exactly what Lifeline Advance is. This crystal-clear, water-based topcoat goes on over the stain as the final coat of the system, adding a tough, flexible layer that takes the beating from high-altitude UV, wind-driven snow, and freeze-thaw cycling — so the color coats underneath don't have to.
In over 25 years finishing Colorado log homes, the topcoat is the difference between a stain that fades and chalks in a couple of seasons and one that keeps its depth for years. Like the rest of the Lifeline system, Advance stays breathable — logs can still release trapped moisture — and it stays elastic, moving with the wood instead of cracking. It also makes routine care easier: dust, pollen, and grime wash off the smooth clear film with a simple cleaning instead of grinding into the stain.
When maintenance time eventually comes, homes topcoated with Advance usually need only a wash and a fresh coat of clear — not a full re-stain. That's why we finish every Ultra-2 exterior with one coat of Advance: it's the least expensive insurance a premium finish can have.
- • Clear protective shield over Lifeline exterior stains
- • Boosts UV, moisture, and abrasion resistance
- • Breathable and elastic — moves with the logs
- • Easier cleaning and simpler maintenance coats
- • Choice of gloss or satin sheen
- • Available in 1 gal. and 5 gal. pails
Lifeline Advance Sheen Options
Advance is completely clear — it doesn't change your stain color, only how the light plays off it. We'll show you both sheens on your actual stained logs before the final coat goes on.

Gloss
A brighter, richer sheen that makes stain colors pop and highlights the wood grain. Popular on showcase walls and darker stain colors.

Satin
A softer, more natural-looking sheen with the same protection. Our most requested option — it flatters weathered restorations and lighter colors.
How It's Applied Right
- • Applied as one coat over fully dried Lifeline stain
- • Sprayed or brushed, always back-brushed for even film
- • Wet edge maintained to avoid lap marks; never in direct sun
- • Applied between 40° and 90°F
- • Exterior walls only — surfaces must be clean and dry
A clear coat magnifies whatever is underneath it — which is why the stain coats and the prep before them have to be right first.
Why It Excels in Colorado
- • Sacrificial clear layer takes the 8,000+ ft UV punishment
- • Sheds wind-driven snow and rain before they reach the stain
- • Breathability handles snow-melt moisture cycling
- • Maintenance usually means a wash and a clear coat, not a re-stain
- • Gloss or satin to suit classic cabins or modern estates
